I did it for Springvale Bulky.

Springvale Bulky made me do it.

Have you ever used that as an excuse? Try is sometime. "I'm sorry honey, I wanted to fold your laundry, but Springvale Bulky talked me out of it."

"I didn't get a chance to pick up dinner because Springvale Bulky talked me into knitting all afternoon. Whoopsies!"

There's just something about Springvale Bulky. He's very persuasive. He's very charming. He's very handsome.

Speaking of characters (don't you love an awkward segue?), here's what Springvale Bulky forced me to do:

He somehow talked me into having my picture taken with him.

More than one time.

The coat is Jackie Kennedy perfection: emerald green, heavy wool, 3/4 length sleeves to show off your gloves. I bought it in an antique store.

But the neck decor? That was designed just for us by the amazingly talented Carina Spencer.

Betula Ring can be worn in about 10 different ways. I didn't even get to photograph all of them.

More pictures here.

Let's see, what do I like about this pattern?

1. Carina Spencer designed it. I'm a big fan. All of her patterns have a simple genius that inspires me.

2. It uses one skein of Springvale Bulky. One!

3. You can wear it in a bunch of different ways. Versatile!

4. You can make this for both men and women. This version is pretty unisex with the wood buttons and the Winter Birch colorway. But it would be just as adorable in pink with mother of pearl buttons or in a manly colorway with a tortoiseshell, wood, or bone button.

5. When you buy it, you're supporting an independent designer.

6. The pattern is clearly written, well-illustrated, and professionally edited.

7. You can whip this up in one movie sitting. Need to give someone a gift tomorrow? No problem!

I could go on here. But enough of my yammering. You should get one for yourself.

Betula Ring pattern, available now for immediate download.

P.S. Be careful, there's no telling what Springvale Bulky might be able to talk you into.

Do you mind if I cast-on this cowl in Seacoast, right away?

Marina, I don't mind at all. Good call!

Sandy, I agree. I don't know who Don is, but I know that I definitely agree. :)

Yeah, the hazards of typing on an iPhone.... ;-)

Hi! Just found your blog. I've been stalking your yarn and website for a long time now with a pocketbook that has been too small to indulge just yet. Sadly! I have to say, I first found out about you during Ravelry's Dye For Glory competition. I voted for your colorways in every single category that you entered in. They were just SO stunning!! I fell head over heels in love with Estuary and Father Time especially! I was so hoping to get my hands on them and was sooooo SAD when they went away before I could grab some. Now I was revisiting your site the other day and my heart stopped beating when I saw that they are available again!! I have to have to have to order soon because I need those colorways!!! :) Keep doing such an awesome job! P.S. -- I am a brand new mother of a little two month old. Knowing what I now know, HOW do you find the time to run a yarnista business with three kids???? Really! I would love to know for future reference! lol :)

Hi Trudy!

Welcome! Congratulations on your new little one!

I'm far from a time management guru, but here's basically how I manage to run this business:
1. Get help at work (employees).
2. Get help at home (husband, family, babysitters)
3. Skip a lot of stuff that you could do and just do what you have to do and what makes you really happy. (My house is not that clean. My dog needs a bath. We had oatmeal and scrambled eggs for dinner.) Something has to give. Pick what you can toss, or someone else will pick it for you. You can't be all things to all people.
4. Get a laptop and work during the time that your children are otherwise occupied. (Sleeping, coloring pictures, etc.)
5. Be willing to make sacrifices. Being the boss means that the buck stops here, and if something absolutely must get done, I have to do it. That means working late. Working weekends. Owning a business is not a job you can leave at the office, and you have to be willing to take that on. (Fortunately, there are other rewards to being the boss!)

There you go. Five easy steps to yarnista-ing.

Sniff that new baby head for me! My youngest will be four in two weeks. Sigh.

I have been drooling over the Winter Birch colorway since it came out. Wonderful to see it knitted up and I will order it after I get the yarn I ordered last week. LOL

Love the coat. My absolutely favorite color.

Happy Wednesday!

Fabulous photo of a beautiful woman wearing a beautiful cowl. I do miss the shamrocks dancing around though. I think you know I love the photo of you with the shamrocks and it makes me sad to think that you don't have a little aura of shamrocks that dance around you all the time.

Would this be a difficult project for a beginning knitter?
