Things that do not suck.
Monday, March 30, 2009 at 5:42PM
That is today's official topic.
This is an effort to cheer myself up after my beloved kitty witty honey lovey Ginger went missing a week ago. She's not an outdoor cat, and she's old. I feel sad that she's gone. Things are just not the same without her. It sucks that she's just disappeared -- that's not how I pictured her leaving the family someday.
So, I present to you:
THINGS THAT DO NOT SUCK.
Thing that does not suck #1. Springtime in Washington, DC. If you ever get to visit DC in the springtime, you should do it. It's our best season. If there's one thing we can do well, it's spring. It comes at just the right time. It alternates between sun and showers. It has roughly 92,478 flowering trees and shrubs.
Forget politics, it's all about the springtime. Maybe I need to get a shirt made that says that and wear it around town.
This is forsythia in my yard.
Things that does not suck #2:
Leaf buds. Leaf buds always seem hopeful to me. They seem confident that better times are ahead.
Thing that does not suck #3:
Shrubs in your yard that bloom whether you ask them to or not. They don't wait for an invitation. They just figure you'll want the flowers and go ahead with their plans.
Thing that does not suck #4:
Moss. Moss and little licheny flower thingies. Pretend licheny and thingies are words. These things grow even though they're on the bad side of the house and there's no sun and it's muddy 365 days a year. What can we learn from this moss and licheny flower thingies?
Thing that does not suck #5:
A good mail day. A good mail day brings you lots of magazines and cards and little to no bills. A good mail day brings you things like this:
Who doesn't love handspun merino cashmere yarn, almond brittle, and handmade stitch markers? You don't even have to like yarn to like those things. Right? Of course right.
A good mail day will contain yarn that speaks to you right away:
A good mail day makes you want to take close up shots of your new handspun merino cashmere yarn.
Thing that does not suck #6:
Y'all. Thank you for everything.
Think about Ginger, will you? Tell her to come home safe.

just (((HUGS))).
aw.. i hope she comes home soon.
I'm so sorry Ginger has not come home yet! (cry) That does suck!
I loved this "Things that don't suck" post. My mom has those forsythia bushes in her yard,my sisters and I always loved how they bloomed in the spring time. It reminds me of my home as a child.
Oh me,oh my is THAT the yarn from the Indulge your needles club??!! I haven't got to go by the post office yet but Ooooo la la I want to go this instant! It gorgeous! It will be my first handspun ever! And look at all those goodies you got!
Happy wishes for you, your family and Ginger's safe return. (((hugs)))
I know what it is like to wonder and worry about a kitty gone missing, so I am sending you lots of warm hugs, and sending Ginger "Go home kitty!" messages!
Thanks for posting such an upbeat, pretty post just when we need it - our 6" of snow from Sunday is now melting under lots of rain, very dreary, no forsythia yet - so thanks much for sharing yours. And yes, moss has much to teach us, I agree.
I hope you have a kitty in your lap soon.
8) Oooooohhhhhh, I think I may have shorted out my keyboard drooling over that yarn. Yes, getting mail like that certainly does not suck.
Definitely thinking about you and Ginger....
Oh honey, I'm sorry about your Ginger. That's a very hard way to lose them, not that there is really an easy way. Lucy and Willie are sending her "go home" messages, too.
sorry about your kitteh. I am glad many things do not suck!
oh, i am so sorry to hear about ginger! i hope that she finds her way home in good health. sending good vibes in your (and her) direction!
My kitty Wuss is almost thirteen and she's also an indoor cat. I'm sending positive vibes and I'll add a little prayer and good thoughts for Ginger. Wuss would join me but although she is very cute, she isn't very smart. My sister's cat Whiskers was gone for a month abd he came back. Someone found him cute and was feeding him so he stuck around a while.
Sorry about your kitty. I have three and I know how I would feel if one of them went missing. I hope she turns up soon and she's ok!
i hope Ginger kitty comes home!
and those little licheny flower thingies are called 'British Soldiers', Cladonia cristatella... which is the name of the fungus part. the algae part of the lichen is Trebouxia erici, put lichens are usually named after their fungi part.
i'm a bit partial to lichens. :)
Oh your poor Ginger! I hope she finds her way home :) My husband and I are going down to see the Cherry Blossoms this weekend! And I'd like to do some knitting on the Mall; I cannot wait!
Had more showers and grey days than I would choose this year though. I was promised partly sunny and was psyched to take some pictures this morning & now we have a dense fog! Not quite living up to a usual DC Spring. But the flowers on all the trees are making me slightly less grumpy about it. It is true those do not suck.
I'm crossing my fingers that Ginger makes it back to you safe & sound. Maybe someone else has been caring for her in the meantime.
Sending out good wishes for the return of your precious Ginger. I hope she finds her way home to you.
Hoping Ginger comes home soon. I have a 13.75 yr old cat. I'm a lucky Mama and Anna Banana stays near home the few times she has gone out. So sorry to hear she still isn't home.
I miss forsythia and dogwood a lot. I do get to smell the lovely scent of orange blossoms blooming everywhere right now. Perspective.
Are "handspun cahsmere merino" even legally allowed to be used in one product? Lovely.
Go home, Ginger. Now, please. Maybe she speaks Spanish, "Va a casa, Ginger. Ahora!"
Good luck.
