TIME’S UP! It’s a sickness.

It really is. And I have been infected. You might want to stop reading this now lest it make you very, very ill as well.

We now have, what... ten? of the best yarn bases out there, and I can't stop working to develop more. Pretty soon y'all will suffer from choice overload and you'll be too overhwlemed to make any yarn-related decisions at all.

Right now, I have three yarns I am considering adding to the lineup. They are all so fantastic, I want to share them with other people. One of them is a plied version of our Galenas Merino in a chunky weight. Another is a heavier weight Blue Faced Leicester yarn... still working to perfect that one. And another is a mid-weight fingering merino washable sock yarn that I can't get enough of.

So, help me out. Do we have too many yarn options already? Should I see a mental health professional for my sickness and stop working on these things? What would you like to see added to the lineup (if anything)? (Either something I've already mentioned, or something else.) What would be your dream 3IG yarn?

If you can help me with these weighty questions, I will enter your response in a drawing for your choice of Curran,

Rhiannon,

or Tara

on Wexford Merino Silk. You have until 2:00pm EST Friday afternoon.

You scratch my back, I'll scratch one of yours.

I like choices! And as an avid sock knitter definitely vote for a heavier weight than the Adorn. My favorite weight is around 400yards to 4 ounces.

i'd love a plied Galenas *and* a washable midweight fingering. i love the unplied Galenas, but there are patterns i feel work better in a plied yarn (cables, for example).
so, no, i don't think we have too many choices yet ;)

Well, from the business end of things, do you have the space to store additional stock, and the capital to invest in it? Do the fibers you want to add complete any current lines, or are you already carrying things that a very similar, and thus will confuse the consumers with too much choice? Also, are the yardages (and pirce points) you are considering good values for crocheters/knitters and their projects?

Personally, if I had to pick one of the 3, I'd pick the fingering or the BFL. Any yarn described as "chunky" worries me because I consider the uses to be very limited - on my figure, adding a sweater in chunky yarn adds a good 4 sizes to my frame, so I tend to avoid it.

Wow... Decisions, decisions... Quite the dilemma ..

Honestly, I am a fiber novice, and awaiting my 1st shipment of 3IG yarn. You have a legendary superchunky in the Riddermark - would the chunky BFL or Galenas be between that and the Aran weight? Washable anything is a bonus...

What I'd like is a "yarn tasting" or sampler platter if you will - I would pay to order 10 yards or so of every base - in the same semi-solid colorway to compare and play around.

I don't think that you have too many yarn options. I love that you offer so many different weights of yarn.
A plied version of the Galenas Merino and a mid-weight fingering merino washable sock yarn would be wonderful additions. My only other suggestion would be a bamboo or tencel blended sock yarn.

No, it's not a sickness! no, there aren't too many choices! The new wannabes sound great!

I'd love to see some sock yarn with bamboo, tencel, something like that in it!

Well, you have too many in that I want them all...but is that really a bad thing? :-) I do love all of the choices, and I think you offer a nice range of fiber choices and prices. Oh, and the colors...

The "yarn sampler" idea sounds intriguing. Not sure how it would work, but I'd buy a sampler of each base in the same colorway if it came with a enough yardage to a 1 skein project.

Cashmere! Bulky cashmere in large put ups!! And a winning lottery ticket!!!
Seriously, cashmere DK or worsted for those special bed socks or fingerless mitts or neck warmers (the ones knit for the nice but picky MIL). Your colorways would do justice to the fiber!

Do we have too many yarn options already? No - each one serves a specific purpose

Should I see a mental health professional for my sickness and stop working on these things? no :)

What would you like to see added to the lineup (if anything)? (Either something I’ve already mentioned, or something else.) What would be your dream 3IG yarn? I love all of the above, but a plied galenas would be absolutely amazing (although I'd prefer something slightly thinner than chunky) as would a thicker weight superwash sock yarn - I have a lot of pain using 0's and 1's lately so I'm on a sport/DK weight sock kick, and superwash is pretty handy. The heavier BFL sounds delicious (Is it like Wooly Wonders By Nada's Big Blue?) and would make awesome soakers/longies.

As for practicalities - will you be stretching yourself or your suppliers too thin? Will you be able to keep adequate stock of all of the bases?

You make me laugh! No I don't think it's a sickness. With each yarn base I try from you I realize more and more what fine yarn you carry and I always check with your stuff first to see if it fits my pattern. So for me I don't feel overloaded with choices,it makes it easier to go to your website and have more than just a few choices. That way there is more of a chance I can get one of your bases that will "fit" the pattern requirements,IYKWIM.

Without a blink,my vote would be for the plied Galenas!! That would be awesome! BFL is always great to have,I love BFL. And I'm a sock virgin so I can't really say what I'd do for that.

Oh and I also would buy a sampler/yarn tasting thing, cute idea. Because we can't go to your shop to touch/feel the yarn it's nice to have some in-real-life to try out.

July 9, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterJaime

hmmm I admit I am a sock junkie - I prefer just a slightly heavier than average fingering weight . . .
You can never give me too many choices! but no promises I won't get stuck in a rut w/ a favorite for awhile. . .
Can't wait to try out some diff things w/ the club tho!

July 9, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMelissa

It is definitely not a sickness (and if it is I'm not sure I'd want you to be cured ;))... oh, and definitely a mid-weight washable fingering merino. Or, any slightly thicker washable sock yarn, please.

July 9, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterSamantha

Yes! Add more yarn! I want one-stop shopping! Seriously, I've used enough of your yarn to know that you only carry very high quality yarns, and I would love to try anything you choose to carry. Of the three options, I would really like to see a plied Galenas because I love that yarn so much. My dream yarn, though, would be a merino dk weight, as it's the weight I use most often for myself. Heavier yarns don't work well for my figure.

Sharon,
It's not a sickness... any of the three would be lovely. Of course, I'm drooling over the Alice at the bottom. Holy beautiful yarn lady!

July 9, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterLaura

Oh, I LOVE choices! All I see just makes me want more! I would say go with all 3 choices. But if I had to choose one it would be...................................................................................................
the Galenas? Of course, I do love sock yarn (even though I don't knit socks...yet) And a bulky yarn can be wonderful.
O heck, I don't know! LOL! Just put 'em all in the store!

July 9, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterLinda F.

I love anything and everything BFL, so more of those in the line up would make for a very happy Rhiannon.

July 9, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterRhiannon

I don't think there are too many choices - I like having weight and sheen options for my projects! Of the ones you mentioned, I would love to see a heavier weight BFL. I love BFL and a second weight would give me more opportunity to work with it!

July 9, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterShelley

I'm just getting started in this wonderful world of yarn. One of the things that drew me to your shop was the wonderful choices in colors and types of yarn. So I say the more the merrier.

July 9, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterBonnie

Yes! More yarns in your gorgeous colors please :) I adore BFL so I think that would be lovely! Of course, I've been known to hoard some sock yarns here and there too ;) Thanks for asking us!! Hope that helps....

July 10, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterknittymuggins

Nah, not a sickness, as long as they all have something unique to offer! I typically run away from chunky, but I think there must be a lot of people who like it, because I keep seeing it everywhere :D

I LOVE the idea of a mid-weight superwash sock yarn! Love it. Want it now. ;)

July 10, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterangela

Have people been asking for any of the above? That's a sure indication that you should go for it.

Having seen the BFL, I can see how it would be good to have it in a heavier weight.

Variety is the spice of life. And yarn choices are the spice of knitting. Or some hokey thing like that.

July 10, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterShoshana

I'd love to see a heavier BFL. I like the one you have now, but I'd like one closer to the peregrine merino weight.

July 10, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterdccdmom

Definitely not a sickness. I think options are wonderful. The BFL and sock yarn ideas sound fabulous. I already drool over all of your yarn, and I can't wait to try them all. Keep working your yarn mojo! :D

July 10, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMichelle

Add Add Add, You can NEVER have enough yarn, Nor can you have enough socks but only stick to the two clubs, Bring on Yarnista and Menagerie!!! YAY :) :) :) :)

July 10, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterBelinda

I like the idea of lots of yarn choices. You could always discontinue a line in the future if you notice it doesn't get a lot of love. You could always try new ones out w/the clubs first & get feedback before you decide to add them.

I second the yarn sampler that Marka suggested - that would be a great way to check them all out.

As for what I'd like to see - I'm into manos de uruguay lately, so anything along that line would be buyable to me.
