Clubs? Where did I put my clubs?

Aha!

There they are!

We have two new, super awesome clubs that have been in the planning stages for, like, ever.

Stash Menagerie

stashmenagerie-sm1.gif

Some of you know that I collaborated with some other talented dyers for our Yarn of the Month club for more than two years. After so many years together (sniffle), we were both ready to try new things. Stash Menagerie was born as a way to enhance your stash and get yarny goodness in the mail every month. (You can see more about it here, if you're interested.)

Sock Yarnista

sock_yarnista.gif

This is really the be all and end all of sock yarn clubs. Exclusively designed patterns. Goodies. Seriously, the BEST yarns, anywhere, ever. Ever. Maybe it's just me. Maybe I'm biased.

But I don't think so.

(More info on this club here.)

These clubs are keeping me awake at night with excitement. My friends and family are like, "All right. We get it. Yarn club. Woo." So we're going to spread a little excitement around to people who actually care (apparently NOT my friends and family ;).

Ready? We are giving away three single month memberships to either of our clubs! (Your choice.) If you are already a subscriber, you can enter too -- you'll either get a free month of membership, or an extra skein in your shipment, whichever you prefer.

TIME'S UP! Enter your first name and real email address below (sorry, gotta keep the spam away), and leave a comment telling us why you like to knit or crochet. That's all! A winner will be chosen using a random number selector. You have until 7:00 pm Eastern on Tuesday, June 3rd to enter. Good luck to you! :D Please note that we'll use the email you leave as a means to contact you, so please be sure it's correct!

Knitting has become such a big part of my life since I learned how in 2002. I first learned as a way to keep busy while commuting to my first job in NYC. Now it is something I do to occupy myself and feel productive. I like to knit while watching tv.....or waiting for things.

I love to knit because it's relaxing, creative and practical. I love having something to wear that I made when I'm done. And I can't sit still without having something for my hands to do.

Why I love to knit? Stress relief, playing with beautiful yarns, making things for people who love them, keeping my hands busy... LOL! Too many reasons.

I love to knit because its my little way to take a break from the stress of life.

Knitting is the only time I have to stop and rest. It is the best stress reliever that I have. If I have a awful day, I know that I can dive into some soft, yummy yarn and create some amazing project.

I knit because of the connection it gives me to other knitters, past and present. I knit because it is soothing in its familiarity while at the same time it engages me to try something new or different- whether it's a new stitch pattern or a new sock architecture!

Though I'd love to know how to knit (and I will learn someday), for now just choosing yarn for my new baby girl's diaper covers is enough therapy for me. Hand-dyed colorways satisfy my love of color and yarn always reminds me of my 10 years of raising sheep. I'm always amazed at how the yarn looks so different from skein to ball to finished product. It's such a joy to watch the evolution.

I love to knit because it keeps me creative, reduces stress, gets my mind off work, makes me (and others) new clothes, lets me play with beautiful yarn, and is generally amazing. To think that there are only 2 stitches and yet what knitters make with those 2 stitches are so wildly varying.

I love to knit because of the yarn! Especially if it is soft and squishy. Plus you get something useful when you finish.

Crocheting is a heritage for me; just about all of my female relatives crochet, all the way up the line as far as I know. I learned at my Mammaw's knee how to make a chain, make doll clothes, and it all just blossomed from there. Now, knitting is also a passion; it's a timeless art, practiced for centuries, and NEVER goes out of style!!

I just love to knit. I love the fact that I can make things for my kids the way I like them in the colors I like and it will be unique. I have to keep my hands busy at all times (can you say ADD?) and this is perfect. Its portable and easy to pick up or stop at a moments notice. Which is great when you have 2 under 2! I love yarn and the feeling of it. Seeing all the different colors and sheens. There is nothing to hate about knitting!!

i love knitting because it is so relaxing and creative. and i love the feeling of handknitted items - nothing compares. i especially love knitting for my little one, knowing she is wearing something made by her mama. :)

I love knitting because it lets me own color...Unlike paint, it feels tangible! And I love that I get to wear the color!

June 2, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMarcela

Knitting is fantastic! It can be challenging and relaxing, and produces a useful and often beautiful result. I love knitting special things for myself and the people I love. It is so satisfying to figure out a new pattern or a technique, and so comforting to go back to what your fingers can do without even thinking! And of course, amazing material to work with add to the joy!

Knitting and crochet help me to create and make time for myself... something I need to do as a stay at home mom. Also, I feel like it keeps my brain sharp!! ;)

June 2, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKellie

I love to knit (and crochet) because I enjoy looking at my children and thinking, "I made that!" It makes me feel good to be able to do more than just spend money to keep my children happy and warm. Plus, it gives me something to do with my hands while I'm watching TV, waiting for a doctor's appointment, watching my kid's sporting events, etc. Otherwise, I'd hear my husband's constant nagging of "PLEASE stop tapping your fingers!!!!"

June 2, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKatie S

I knit because I breathe...is that a good enough answer?

Actually, I knit because it stops me from snacking while I watch TV and because it is very relaxing for me. I can sit and watch sports (pick a sport, any sport) with my husband and it doesn't bother me to just hang out, and I don't bother him.

I knit...because I love it!

I love knitting because it's just for me. I'm a SAHM, and my entire day seems to be about my kids. But when I knit, I can just let my hands move and my mind wander.

June 2, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterDenice

I love to knit because its soo relaxing and it helps me think.

June 2, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterkatie

I love to knit because it usually can bring me peace. I yearn to knit after a long, busy, hectic day, and I look forward to those rare free Saturdays when much time can be spent curled up with knitting.

I also love to knit because I love to adorn my favorite people in hand-knit goodness (whether they want it or not!).

June 2, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterHolly

Knitting is awesome, because I find the process of creating something to be thrilling, and then, when I cast off, I have a finished product to wear!

June 2, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKimberly

Hey, I gotta keep my hands busy so I stay out of trouble, right? ;)

June 2, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterPatti

Knitting is an expression of love. Self-love and love for others. My knitting is always with me. Feeling the yarn, the repetitive hand motion - it comforts me like a mother comforts a child. Wearing something that is filled with the intention I have when I create it, brings peace and happiness to those who come in contact with it.

Knitting is a form of social connection. It allows me to sit with strangers and form a bond - over a piece of string. It encourages physical touch as I help another hold the needles and pass on to them the secret of creating beauty with two simple knots. It is the foundation of smiles and hugs and expressions of wonder and awe.

Knitting brings me everything my soul needs to be nourished. Knitting banishes fear.

Knitting gives me an excuse to buy more yarn.

I love to knit because it is like meditation for me. After spending the day running around and dealing with life, I like nothing better than to sit and knit. The repetition calms me and when I start seeing the item forming it makes me happy!

June 2, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKara

What a great question. I love to knit because it brings me serenity at the end of my day as a stay-at-home mom to my 3 boys (ages 4, 2.5 and 1.5).
