Clubs? Where did I put my clubs?

Aha!

There they are!

We have two new, super awesome clubs that have been in the planning stages for, like, ever.

Stash Menagerie

Some of you know that I collaborated with some other talented dyers for our Yarn of the Month club for more than two years. After so many years together (sniffle), we were both ready to try new things. Stash Menagerie was born as a way to enhance your stash and get yarny goodness in the mail every month. (You can see more about it here, if you're interested.)

Sock Yarnista

sock_yarnista.gif

This is really the be all and end all of sock yarn clubs. Exclusively designed patterns. Goodies. Seriously, the BEST yarns, anywhere, ever. Ever. Maybe it's just me. Maybe I'm biased.

But I don't think so.

(More info on this club here.)

These clubs are keeping me awake at night with excitement. My friends and family are like, "All right. We get it. Yarn club. Woo." So we're going to spread a little excitement around to people who actually care (apparently NOT my friends and family ;).

Ready? We are giving away three single month memberships to either of our clubs! (Your choice.) If you are already a subscriber, you can enter too -- you'll either get a free month of membership, or an extra skein in your shipment, whichever you prefer.

TIME'S UP! Enter your first name and real email address below (sorry, gotta keep the spam away), and leave a comment telling us why you like to knit or crochet. That's all! A winner will be chosen using a random number selector. You have until 7:00 pm Eastern on Tuesday, June 3rd to enter. Good luck to you! :D Please note that we'll use the email you leave as a means to contact you, so please be sure it's correct!

Socks are quickly becoming an addiction for me. I both knit and crochet (but knitting is my favorite). I love the yarn at the site! How could I not join the club? I went monthly so I wouldn't have to worry about resigning up. We know how these addictions work. =0) Have fun everyone!

I like to knit because the repetition keeps me sane. I know if I do A plus B, I get C. It's very soothing to me, because I *know* I can do it!

I love that knitting is so portable compared to many other crafts, and love having busy hands.

i like to knit and have been doing so for 23 years because.......

i can escape for just a few mins at a time. i can find a little sanity in a fast and chaotic world with 3 kids all in activities there is not alot of down time for mom and knitting is my poison of choice for the little and rare down time. this is sopmething i can do when they are in karate and have even been known to take it to the movies and knit in the dark. the awful simpsons movie was good for this a lot of bright colors.

I like to knit because I find it relaxing. On a couple of occasions knitting has acted as a headache remedy for me just by its soothing nature. I also love the feeling of creating something, and handmade gifts feel much more personal than anything storebought can even be.

I love to crochet because it is one of the few things that my Mom taught me that I am good at. I love Tunisian crochet because it is the first thing I taught myself that I was able to take to a new level with my creative side. I love to knit because it is so new to me and I can really spread my wings and explore making clothes, socks, hats and all manner of other things that were much more limited when I was only a crocheter.

There's nothing more rewarding to me than seeing someone I love (or even someone I don't!) in something I've created for them. It truly makes me feel as though I've made a difference in their life. Even if it's in a very small, knitted way =)

Knitting allows me to take my creativity out with me. Its very hard to take a sewing machine on a car trip ;) It has given me such pleasure in seeing my beautiful babies and family wearing my home made goodies :)

I first loved knitting as a way to remove myself from real life for awhile and relish the quiet. Now, I love knitting because it is something my daughter, son and I enjoy doing together. And it's still mostly quiet time (except for the occasional "Mom, did I mess something up?"'s)!

Why I love to knit-

As a SAHM I won't know if I'm doing a good job for, oh, 20 years or so. :) Knitting is my way of keeping sane and having a finished product at the end of the day (week, month, year. LOL). Both my daughter and son love getting new handknit toys and clothes and often help me pick out yarn and patterns to knit up next.

Why do I knit? It is relaxing - and creative - and as I get older, it is hard to see to cross stitch, so knitting fills my creativity needs as cross stitch once did.

I love knitting, it keeps my hands busy. I wrap my feet in custom made socks. I love all the colors that my stash (and stash to come) have.

Knitting is creative, it's relaxing, and it's fun!

Knitting is both a creative outlet and a stress reliever to me. I learned how to knit when my twins were infants ... it gave me something productive to do in those 15 minute increments I had between feedings! Now, I really enjoy both creating cool, unique things for me and my twins (now almost 5) to wear and letting my mind wander while I knit.

Why do I knit? There are a lot of reasons, mostly because I love making things. As a mommy, I spend so much of my time playing and doing things with my kids that I don't get to do things for myself. Knitting is an outlet for me...not just making stuff for myself, but having a way to be creative and to think and connect with adults!

Knitting is artistic, relaxing and analytical. It gives me a hobby that creates something beautiful and tactile.

I'm new to knitting, but am slowly learning! I find it helps me relax, and I need as much relaxation I can get with 6 kids!

I also love the satisfaction I get when I complete a project! Gives me confidence in other areas of my life!

I love to knit because it is relaxing and something I can do just for me. My little selfish part of life if you will. :)

I knit because I love seeing and touching beautiful yarns. I love watching the fabric grow and the connection with knitting throughout history.

Frankly, I started knitting to distinguish myself in a large family. I'm the 5th of 11, and I love every single one of my siblings---but sometimes you need something that is your own, that feels like you can say is my hobby, what I do.

What surprised me when I did start knitting (and the reason that I'm knitting today) is the community of knitters. I'm not trying to sound sappy here, but let's face the facts: I'm a seventeen year old who talks too much, has an opinion on everything and the inevitable angst that comes along with being a teen. (Hurrah!)

But the other knitters that I talked to didn't seem to notice that. Maybe it's the patience that innumerable froggings bring, or the knowledge that not everything is perfect the first time around, but I was as welcome as anyone else.

What really cemented this for me was the day that someone gave me some yarn. I was on my blog, and complaining a little about the fact that I just didn't have much to knit with. I wanted to use good yarn for my projects, but I just didn't have the money for the yarn that I longed for in my local yarn store. Then, a kind woman that read my blog sent me a message. She said, "I have some extra sock yarn that I know I'm never going to use---would you like me to send it to you?"

I was blown away. Not only did she send 5 skeins of sock yarn, she sent a little bag to hold it, and a clutch for various odds and ends such as double-pointed needles and stitch markers.

It wasn't so much the yarn----although that was certainly a plus---but the sense of giving that surprised me so much. She certainly didn't get anything out of the deal!

That's a long story to say that I'm knitting today because of the community, because of the people that I can sit with on Thursday nights, pick up my needles and talk too much. Or maybe not at all. It doesn't matter, because we all share a common love: knitting.

I love being able to make things for my family that can't be bought at a store. :)

The visual beauty of yarn & fiber, the tactile pleasure of feeling smooth, soft yarn passing through my fingers, the soothing nature of each repetitive motion, the joy of creating something with my own hands, the feeling of connectedness with knitters, past and present... What's not to love? :o)

I can sum it up in one word: therapy.

If you need more than one word, let if suffice to say that through the laughter and the tears, knitting has been the one constant in my life. It is my therapy, my creative outlet, my way of helping others (through charity knitting), and my way of creating beauty in a sometimes not so lovely world.

I love to knit because it is a way to continually challenge myself. I also love learning new techniques and I feel so proud when one is finally mastered. Finally, I love that my craft has a practical purpose. It can be worn, used to transport groceries, or wash my baby in the bath. It is so personal and love goes into every piece I make.
