TIME’S UP! Biggest yarn giveaway… ever!
Monday, March 23, 2009 at 5:31PM
Time is up! We'll be liveblogging the winners today (Wednesday) around 12:00 noon EST.
Have you seen our Spring Lookbook yet? (Even if you do nothing but flip through and think, "Cool," that will make me happy.)
We are giving away every skein of yarn pictured in the Spring Lookbook. Every single skein. All twenty of them.
This one:
And this one:
And this one:
And all seventeen more. We're not giving away the other stuff in the pictures, just the yarn.
There is no catch. You don't have to buy anything, you don't even have to pay for shipping. All you have to do is enter.
Contest rules: One entry per person. Our blog logs IP addresses, so we can check. Please enter only one time. You cannot be an employee of Three Irish Girls or be related to an employee of Three Irish Girls. (Got that, honey?) Your entry must be received by 4:30 am Eastern time on Wednesday, March 25th. Entries sent after that time will not be included in the contest.
Here's how it works: Reply to this post, answering the question below. You must actually reply to this post, do not email in your answer. (Click on the Read User's Comments link, and scroll down. It will take you to a box where you can reply.) After all the entries have been received, the number of entrants will be divided into 20 groups. One winner will be selected from each of the 20 groups. This is to improve your chances of winning. For example, if there are 100 responses, I will divide everyone into 20 groups. Each group will have five people.
Are you with me? 100 divided by 20= 5. I will then choose one winner from each of the 20 groups. In the scenario I've given, your odds of winning will change from one in 100 to one in five. Or something like that. I'm not a statistician. Just try to trust me, I'm looking out for you here. There will also be one grand prize given away, a winner randomly chosen from among everyone. The grand prize is a $150 gift certificate to be used on anything you like in our store.
TIME IS UP! WINNER'S WILL BE ANNOUNCED AROUND 12:00 EST TODAY (WEDNESDAY). BE SURE AND CHECK BACK, and thank you, everyone. :)GOOD LUCK, AND MAY THE (KNITTING) FORCE BE WITH YOU!

When I saw the Erin colorway, I knew I would knit it up into a Rogue sweater. (Designer Jenna Wilson) Oh, those greens and turquoises make me want to knit cables, cables and more cables. MMmmmm.
Devin!...I'm really into greens right now...I also loved Maura and Madigan- I'm so curious to see what they'd look like worked up...
Love them all, but if I had to choose one, Maeve is calling my name for a shawl. (of course, so is Madigan and Kate)
I love the kieran...the colors are so vibrant yet cool. I would make a scarf
I would pick Erin because my name is Erin and I would make myself a cool hat because I love hats. :P
So many pretties to choose from!
I think Maura is #1 ( for Me) or Kieran #2 ( for my boss) I would love to knit either of them in the shawl pattern Gail (aka Nightsongs)
So much pretty stuff! I like Alana even though I'm not usually a pink fan. Maura is gorgeous (and such a cool picture!)
But I think Niall is my favorite. I'd make a scarf of some kind, maybe for my blue-eyed son.
Truly, I have such trouble deciding, as all the color ways are GORGEOUS! As a relatively new knitter, I really never get the opportunity to knit with high-quality stuff! I would have to pick Kieron. The rusty reds, the vibrant color, the slight sheen on the surface... In my perfect knitting world, I would definitely use Kieron for my first ever pair of socks. I already have a pattern picked out (rpm on Knitty) I so desperately desire something nice for these perfect socks! My first socks will already be special, but this yarn would complete everything.
I would pick Ian. Why? It is my Son's middle name, Alexander Ian. What would I make with Ian? Something for my son to wear. He has been in a 'black' phase for 10 years now. I want to see color on hiim.
Cian is my favorite--it's so vibrant and lovely! I would make socks out of it for sure. Something challenging. :D
How to decide... they are all spectacular! If I had to choose just one-I choose Alana. Socks would be heavenly!
I LOVE Maeve!! I would make a pair of socks.
What a lovely way to introduce the new colorways! My Top3 are Jack, Kate and Madigan. If I must choose, I'd say Jack is my favourite! I would love to make it into a narrow spring scarf knit in a simple stitch but bordered by lacy edges : )
So hard to choose ONE, but if I had to, it would probably be Kieran (ask me tomorrow, and it might be Maeve or Cameron or Clare or...for myself...then for others in my family, it would be all of the rest LOL!). As to what I would make, either a shawl or warm weather cardigan for air-conditioned places--you know, something pretty to throw over your shoulders when you're at the office. Doesn't have to match everything, but is beautiful enough that it doesn't matter!
I love Grady!!! I would love to make a pair of socks in that colorway! Beautiful!!
It would be Jack. Don't get me wrong, it was a difficult decision......
Jack just seems like just the "pick me up" that I'm in need of. I would make socks to wear to a job interview.
You know.....that little bit of "Shazam" to wear with the stuffy interview suit......
These colors are beautiful. There are several I would love to take home, but Kieran has to be my favorite. Perhaps it is because I've always wanted to be a redhead! I love the combination of reds and oranges.
Those pictures are scrum-diddly-umptious! My answers:
1) which color: Alana (if it's a girl) or Niall (for a boy). In this case I'd be crossing my fingers that the baby would be a girl because the Alana color is SO pretty!
2) what would I make: a beautiful baby sweater and hat combination for my friend's baby-to-be. I'd probably use a V-neck sweater pattern from Cabin Fever's new booklet & a hat from Itty-Bitty Hats.
Maura, I kept looking at all the other beautiful yarns and colors but Maura is just gorgeous I would knit something very simple to show off all the colors like a stockinette cardigan with maybe an asymetrical hem or a raglan sweater with bell sleeves
Cameron would be beautiful for a beret!
Choose just one? Ach!!! I oohed wildly at Kieran and Erin, but if I could only pick one, it would be Maeve. I WILL get some of that very soon and I'll probably make the Clover Leaf Stole (http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/clover-leaf-scarf-or-stole). Seems fitting for 3IG yarn, eh?
Very hard to choose but I would have to pick Erin!
I love them all but Maeve is my first love. Socks..... Jan is awesome too. Awesome photography
Oooh... Just one? I'm loving Niall, Erin and Kieran as potential shawls, but I think Grady is calling out for some nice masculine socks for my husband. I've been neglecting his feet, as far as knitting is concerned...
I absolutely love them all!
Cameron would make a beautiful sweater or shawl!
